Course Overview
When designing a new transportation network or redesigning an existing one, it is necessary to answer the following questions: What is the ideal distribution network, given current transport resources? Will it provide a satisfactory service level, without stockouts, at dispensing facilities? What would be the ideal distribution network if more resources were available? To -answer these questions, the course analyses several transport networks that a country can consider, ranging from direct shipping networks to the complex shipments via distribution centers with milk runs. Once a suitable transport network is designed it is necessary to develop and implement a formal TMS that will support and sustain the network. The course covers, in detail, the following activities that are required in coming up with a comprehensive TMS: operations management, fleet management, human resources management and performance monitoring.
